CY and Soul
This is a fantastic course – if you are starting a Youth group for the first time I would say it is the ideal resource to kick off with. I have now used this resource in a variety of contexts and found it to be very adaptable and usable. More importantly it gets to the heart of the Christian gospel without going down irrelevant sidetracks.
I have used it in a 6th form college where we basically just used the DVD talks and discussed them, in a school CU where we only used the handbook and in a Youth group setting where we pretty much used everything. In every context I found it helped us get to the point and talk about the big issues of Christianity.
In the session on Grace one of the games suggested is to make a divide the youth into teams and give each team a handful of dry spaghetti, a pear and a banana and tell them to build a 2 metre high tower. Of course it is absolutely impossible. It lead into the story of the rich young man who’s good deeds were not enough to get him into heaven. It got us talking about the nature of Grace and had one of our youth asking what they could do to get to heaven as we had discussed the fact that we cannot earn our way there. It was such a powerful illustration and to me really demonstrated the power of the course in getting to the heart of the issues.
I could not recommend it more highly, top class theology and top class illustrations and presentation. A must have for any youth leader!
