1) Dodgeball
Need:
- 3-5 Sponge balls.
- Masking tape.
Play:
- Mark a line accross the centre of the room.
- Divide your group into two teams.
- Place the balls along the centre line.
- One team starts at each end of the room facing into the centre line.
- They must tryp to get the members of the other team out by hitting them below the knee with a sponge ball.
- Anyone who crosses the line into the other teams half is out.
- The team that gets all of the other team out is the winner.
2) Noodle tag
Need:
- One swimming noodle.
- Space to run around
Play:
- Get the youth to get into pairs.
- The pairs must be evenly spread around the playing area and stand linking arms with their partner.
- Ideally you will need at least 4 pairs for the game to work well – leaders should join in!
- Choose one pair to be ‘on’.
- Out of this pair one will be the chaser and one will be trying to escape.
- The chaser must try to tag the one being chased with the swimming noodle.
- If they tag them they must drop the noodle and start running – the person tagged must pick up the noodle and start chasing!
- In order to escape the person being chased must link arms with someone from another pair – once they do this they are safe
- However the person from that pair that they have not linked arms with must now run away!
- This game can go on as long as you like – good for burning off some energy.
- I normally give a 1 minute warning before the end of the game and whoever is left ‘on’ has to do some kind of silly forfeit.
3) Relay races
Need – A relatively long area to have relay races.
Play:
- Organize your group into 2 or more equal teams of 5 or more.
- Get them to take turns running up and down the area.
- The first team to have all their members complete the run and sit down is the winner.
Notes
- This is such an obvious game but relays can be such a great way to do an active game even in a limited space. You can vary by having a range of different tactics.
- e.g. hop, crawl, run backwards, frog jump, star jumps (sideways).
